Day 1: Kick-off week Health & Innovation District
It has already been a few weeks since the Sanquin Health & Innovation kick-off. On day one, there was a full programme with a large number of speakers. The aim was to show as many of the District’s existing assets as possible, as well as to talk about the potential of this area. The day was hosted by Sabine Uitslag (former Member of Parliament and spokesperson for healthcare).
The programme included the official opening of the Health & Innovation District New West by Alderman Victor Everhardt and Rogier van den Braak (director HID), and the presentation of the first and new residents (Sanagen, Frame Cancer therapeutics, BISC Global, Zwiers Regulatory Consultancy, Prothya Biosolutions and IPFA). In addition, Maartje van den Biggelaar (Sanquin Research) and Harry Bos (Sanquin Reagents) showed the strength and potential of the parties present at Sanquin and the HID. Finally, Anton Verweert, Nico Vreeswijk and Anja Leyte from OLVG discussed the plans for setting up a regional test laboratory. Day 2: Kick-off week Sanquin Health & Innovation
On day two, participants were able to experience what a Sanquin evening has to offer. Professor Hans Zaaijer and a number of his colleagues, Marieke van der Ham, Jaap Jan Zwaginga and Gert Jan Wolbrink, discussed many aspects and questions surrounding (the role of antibodies in) the COVID virus.
Before that, the Sanquin Academy was launched by Tjark Tjin-a-Tsoi, Chair of the Executive Board, Anouk Wagenaar and Eugenie Driessen (both founders of the Sanquin Academy). Pieter de Geus (managing director, Sanquin Health Solutions) started the afternoon by explaining the role of Sanquin Health Solutions and the role of the HID district.

Day 3: Kick-off week Sanquin Health & Innovation About startup dos and don’ts
The guest speaker on day three was Patrick de Zeeuw, the founder of Startup Bootcamp, a programme that supports startups worldwide to grow rapidly. From his unique position of having guided more than 1,000 entrepreneurs, Patrick shared his 30 tips with us. With the establishment of the New West Health & Innovation District (HID) campus, the ideal breeding ground for realising ideas has now been created.
