HID x The Pollinators

In a city that’s constantly evolving, we believe a healthy living environment starts with the basics. Plants, flowers, insects – they may seem small, but they play a vital role in the quality of our surroundings. Wild bees and other pollinators ensure the growth of plants, even in urban areas. They are essential for biodiversity and our food supply.

But pollinators are under pressure. There’s not enough food, not enough space. The good news? We can do something about it – together.

HID joins the National Sowing Coalition

Each year around National Sowing Day (22 April), people across the Netherlands take action to create more food sources for bees and other pollinators. This initiative is led by The Pollinators, a movement committed to supporting biodiversity in urban settings. HID is now an official partner of their National Sowing Coalition.

This spring, we’re taking part by:

  • hosting a bee food bank on our campus, where local residents can pick up a free bag of wildflower seeds

  • and organising hands-on workshops and activities in collaboration with The Pollinators

With these steps, we want to show that our campus is not just a place for science and research, but also a place where neighbours are welcome and where local connections can grow.

Why these workshops matter

At HID, we believe innovation shouldn’t stop at the lab door. That’s why we’re building a campus that’s open to the community – a place where neighbours, students, professionals and entrepreneurs can meet, learn and create together.

Our partnership with The Pollinators is a natural fit. Their approach is practical and inclusive. You don’t need a garden or green thumb to take part – just curiosity and a bit of time. These free workshops offer an easy way to get involved, learn something new, and make a difference for your neighbourhood.

The Pollinators will lead both the walks and the workshop. HID will take care of the space, drinks and snacks, and a warm welcome. All activities are open to campus members and neighbours alike.
